Low Back Treatment - Sean Garlick - Captain of Sydney Roosters

Duy Long Nguyen specialises in upper and low back treatments. "....After a troubled start in Sydney, Longy embraced the healing powers of massage he learnt as a child in Vietnam. With his unique skills, he fulfilled his mother's dream of making a good life for himself in a new country.

Along the way he became friend to some of the world's most powerful businessmen and a veritable roster of famous celebrities and Hollywood movie stars.

THE licensing officer at Maroubra police station was none the wiser. To Constable Sean Garlick, Duy Long Nguyen was just another name to be processed.

For his part, Longy thought this muscular officer might have been a part-time bodybuilder.

His upper body was strong and thickset, but he presented a less formidable image when he rose stiffly from his chair and walked to a photocopier.``You injured your back?'' Longy asked him.

``It's a bit sore.''

To most people Sean Garlick wasn't a policeman but a prize Rooster. He was the captain of Sydney City Roosters rugby league team. One of 20 teams playing in the Australian Rugby League's first grade premiership, the sport's most prestigious club competition. And as any player would, he carried a few bumps, bruises and niggling injuries.

``I have a look at you. You will feel better.''

To Garlick's bemusement, this chatty Vietnamese man began poking and prodding him.

``You very tense. I help you. Five minutes, that's all we need.''

Garlick was curious to see what would happen. He lay face down on the floor in full uniform. Amid interruptions from his amused colleagues Garlick surrendered to Longy's touch.

``Mate, that's great!''...................That afternoon after work, Garlick received a longer treatment at his home. It was a painful hour of feeling sharp knuckles dig into muscles and tendons. But all the agony was worth it when he was able to practically stroll through his team's evening training....................."

After experiencing his back treatment, Sean Garlick spread the word and Longy found himself  with a long list of rugby league clients.  He treated low back injuries, necks, goins and shoulders keeping the players on the field each week.  Longy went on to tour with the Australian rugby league test team and helped Manly to a premiership win.
